Double Success for Norbrook at UTV Business Awards
Newry based Norbrook Laboratories Ltd has won two awards at the prestigious UTV Business Eye Awards.
The company topped the International Trade category while the Chairman and CEO, Lord Ballyedmond was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to the business life and the economy in Northern Ireland.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Lord Ballyedmond said: “It is a great privilege to accept two awards on behalf of Norbrook and to be honoured among my Northern Ireland business peers for whom I have the utmost respect. To witness the calibre of award nominees and winners fills me with great hope for the future of Northern Ireland.”

Norbrook’s success on the global stage was recognised with the International Trade Award following a year in which the company increased export sales by 13%. “We are tremendously proud of our success in international markets,” adds Lord Ballyedmond. “We have grown export sales by 60% since 2005 and they now represent over 90% of the Group’s consolidated turnover. We will continue to focus on our global business to develop existing markets and explore new emerging markets.”
Lord Ballyedmond was presented with the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at the gala ceremony. As a leading entrepreneur and founder of Norbrook, he has steered the company to become a world leader in the development of revolutionary veterinary and animal health medicines, employing 1500 people in three sites in Newry and 3000 worldwide. In accepting the honour, Lord Ballyedmond dedicated his award to young enterpreneurs, “I have accepted this award with great joy and hope and see it as a stimulant to bringing young entrepreneurs on in Northern Ireland. I will hold the award in trust for them, who I believe are the future of our economy.”
Norbrook is the largest privately owned pharmaceutical company in the world with manufacturing facilities on four continents, sales and marketing offices in 30 countries and exports to 120 countries. It is the only company in the world which is licenced by the United States Food and Drugs Administration to manufacture sterile injections for veterinary use outside the USA which can be re-imported back into the US.
The company is expanding rapidly and has recruited over 250 new employees since the beginning of 2011 in an ongoing recruitment campaign.
